Usability Testing Goals

Review for usability testing today… have them go through the prototype they can ask questions, but do not tell them how to use it if they have issues. Ask them what is not clear…

  • To validate a prototype
  • To find issues with complex flows
  • To gather unbiased user opinions
  • To get the insights that help create a better overall user experience

  • What is the main reason people visit your website?
  • What are they trying to achieve?
  • What other websites might they visit before or instead of yours?

What stops people from completing a task? (if any)

  • What, if anything, is stopping users from [action]?
  • What can they not find on the page? (if any)
  • Do they find the wording or navigation confusing?

What convinces your users to take action?

  • What is convincing them to [take action]?
  • What did they like most about their experiences on your site?

How valuable is your/our product/app?

  • Does the user understand the point of your site?
  • Is your site easy to navigate?

Ask open-ended questions:

  • How can we make this app better?
  • What are your main concerns or questions about [product/service]?
  • Where did we fall short?
  • Was there any feature or navigation that was not clear?
  • Are there any other comments you would like to share?

Usability Testing Insights

  • Search by category / use case / facet first.
  • Filter by price (should be optional) (don't make the price mandatory).
  • Should have dates filter.
  • Results/Page 2 should have a price listed per result.
  • What are the 5 rows for?
  • Put your credit card first and then register.
  • Building endowment: getting ppl invested in products before they check out. Making them feel they accomplished something going throughout the process
  • Every search filter they applied, should be recognized.
  • By acknowledging the work they have done on the next page e.g. transitioning from search to the results page, they should see their previous work rewarded.
